likely to have sung anything like a salute before departing...maybe the British interpreted it that way or its pure invention. great film and a tribute to the ordinary chaps who make up the british fighting men but who can blame the Zulus for fighting for what was their birthright against all comers!!!!!! The director gave each of them a new Timex wrist watch after the Gene Autry flick.
