story illustrated by Sidney Paget. (Two of the four Sherlock Holmes novels -
- A Study in Scarlet and The Sign of the Four -
- preceded the short story cycle).

Doyle ranked "A Scandal in Bohemia"
fifth in his list of his twelve
favourite Holmes stories.
