Chess for life: In the press conference after the tie breaks Magnus was asked if he had silenced his critics who after game 12 had said he had lost his fighting spirit and was having a nervous breakdown. He really should have just left it at "I just went 3-0: how do you like me now, bitches?!". But instead he added that Kramnik and Kasparov were entitled to their "stupid opinions". I think that took it too far. |

BishopBerkeley: Garry Kasparov made the following interesting observation on Twitter:
"[Magnus] Carlsens consistent level of play in rapid chess is phenomenal. We all play worse as we play faster and faster, but his ratio may be the smallest ever, perhaps only a 15% drop off. Huge advantage in this format."

Garry Kasparov has 5 million>

Somewhat in conflict with what he tweeted two days earlier :)
<In light of this shocking draw offer from Magnus in a superior position with more time, I reconsider my evaluation of him being the favorite in rapids. Tiebreaks require tremendous nerves and he seems to be losing his.>

I associate the term more with overlooking the winner's errors when commenting a game - or saying those errors are part of a grand plan.

I think Chernev has a stranglehold on the first, and the Eternal Site Sockpuppet has a stranglehold on the second.

metatron2: re top 5 list:
I don't have a clear list, Kasparov is my #1, Carlsen is (already) in my top 5, Karpov and Fischer too, but I am not sure about their order. My #5 in the list is one of: Lasker, Capablanca, Alekhain, or Botvinik, but I don't have a clear favorite between them.
However, it is clear to me that Carlsen is #1 player ever in Rapid chess.
And BTW, Caruana is in my top 10 list (or at least top 15).
